The Steinway Model D Concert Grand Piano
We were fortunate to acquire a fabulous Steinway Model D Concert Grand Piano.
This fine instrument was originally built in 1922, in Hamburg, and is one of the exceptional pianos constructed by Steinway, arguably the world’s finest piano makers.
The Steinway website informs us…. ‘At 8’ 11 3/4” in length, this majestic musical instrument – ‘the pinnacle of concert grands’ – is the overwhelming choice of the world’s greatest pianists and for anyone who demands the highest level of musical expression.’
This instrument allows the church to support music making of the highest levels, by simply possessing such a fine instrument, capable of both solo and chamber work. The Steinway is one of the reasons that St Laurence’s is a choice for the prestigious Ludlow English Song Weekend, drawing some of the world’s finest singers, both established and emerging, each year. The piano is a key element in the concert programme that runs in the church across the year.
The Steinway is also ideal for solo piano work with orchestras who are performing in the church.
Experienced musicians may be able to play the piano or organ. Permission must be sought in advance, giving details of qualifications and experience. Please apply to the Parish Office by completing this form
