The start of the journey

Baptism

Baptism (also called Christening) involves an ‘initiation’ and welcome into the world-wide church, represented by a local church with which you have a relationship.

Who can be baptised at St Laurence's?

To hold a baptism at St Laurence’s Church you must

  • live in our parish or
  • have a close pastoral connection with St Laurence’s Church or
  • regularly attend services here

If you do not live in the parish and do not have a pastoral connection with St Laurence’s we suggest that you make contact with your local parish church, as it is important that the baptism takes place in a church community that can nuture your faith and welcome you to become part of its community.

You can find out which is your local parish at  A Church Near You

When can we hold our baptism service?

Baptisms are usually conducted on a Sunday following our morning service but may also be included as part of our 10am Sunday morning Eucharist service on the fourth Sunday of the month.

Is there a charge for a baptism?

No, but we ask the family to make a donation.

How we go about booking our baptism?

Please contact the Parish Office (01584 872073 or office@stlaurences.org.uk) to discuss the details.

Affirming your faith

Confirmation

Confirmation is an occasion for people who have been baptised to affirm their faith for themselves. Through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop, the Church also asks God to give those being confirmed power, through the Holy Spirit, to live the life of discipleship.

Usually one confirmation service is held each year, which is led by one of our bishops – usually the Bishop of Hereford. Confirmation is preceded by a number of weeks of preparation.

If you are interested in being confirmed, please contact the Parish Office.
